Once, a significant part of Europe was covered by forest – a single ecosystem that had formed long before human intervention. Biatowieża Forest is the largest and best-preserved remnant of that primeval woodland.
Centuries-old trees in this forest reach sizes rarely seen in other regions and have a distinctive silhouette – massive, tall trunks rising to relatively small, high-positioned crowns.
The branches of one such tree are captured in this diptych, symbolizing a portal into that ancient forest, back to a time when humans lived in harmony with nature.
